Sooo I have to admit that I am a huge quote junkie.... So this post is going to be entirely dedicated to a few of the many wonderful quotes, about volunteering of course, out there :)
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
-Margaret Mead
One is not born into the world to do everything but to do something.
-Henry David Thoreau
Everyone can be great because everyone can serve. You don't have to have a college degree. You don't even have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience ,and just plain love for one another.
-Erma Bombeck
We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.
-Winston Churchill.
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
-Aesop
Hope you enjoyed the quotes! On and a little side note to all my readers out there:
Please, please leave me comments! I would love to here any feedback from you guys. If you have any cool volunteering opportunities that you would like me to write about--let me know and I will!

I can't believe it's been a month since the trip! Time really does fly. Even though the trip is done with, I am still on a mission to continue volunteering my time to help those in need. I found a really cool non-profit called Rebuilding Together, which have many chapters spread throughout the US. Their mission is to "bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need." They offer free home repairs, to those in need, to ensure they have a warm and safe home.
There are many ways in which one can volunteer for this non-profit. If you have money, they are always taking donations. If you have new or used supplies, such as home fixtures or tools, laying around the house, they take whatever they can get. Lastly, you can volunteer your time working behind the scenes, making food or doing office work, or go out and do the physical labor of fixing a home. Their annual event National Rebuilding Day takes place next week Saturday, April 30th. They are planning to fix 15 low-income homes in one day. Pretty cool, huh? I would encourage anyone who finds this interesting, to sign up and volunteer. Here's the link to their website: http://www.rebuildingtogether-twincities.org/
Give a couple hours of your Saturday giving back to those less fortunate. Trust me, it's worth it!

Hey everyone!
So our last day in Washington we cleaned the river. When they told us it was the dirtiest river in America, they truly meant it. Bottles, tires, train tracks, shopping carts, cars, the list could go on and on about what we found in that river. It was quite the eye opener. Later that night we had a little celebration , where Dan and Elena gave the cutest speech out of everyone. Purple bus love! Yes, tears came to my eyes (what a surprise). Then off we were to Minnesota. We spent two days on a bus making sure to spend every second bonding with one another--from playing hot seat to writing our yeah buddies to playing horse.
It was a sad day returning back to Minnesota. We were quite emotional if I must say. From the bus cores to Jims speech, it really hit me how much of an impact 40 college students on spring break can make. After taking our final group picture, I had to book it out of there. I spent my five minute car ride home balling to my roommate, trying to explain how amazing this trip and the people I meet were. She probably thought I was a freak. I tried to pull myself together but then lost it when I started reading my yeah buddies. I was so overwhelmed with happiness. Some of you are probably wondering what a yeah buddy is. It's just a little note saying thanks for what someone did that had an impact on you. I feel that everyone should write yeah buddies. It's a chance for you to say how you truly feel about somehow. Something that most of us never do.
I know that we, the purple bus, made an impact when the lady at the nursing home came to use with tears in her eyes, thanking us for singing to her mother and the rest of the nursing home at Milan. I know that we made an impact in Greensboro sorting and pricing products for those less fortunate then us. I know that we made an impact when we picked up over 300 bags of trash, 100 car tires, and who knows what else in the Anaconda river.
Purple Bus for life.
